The Handmaid's Tale - Post Two

As the Handmaid's Tale progressed, I wasn't that surprised to see Offred embracing the things of the past that made her believe in a future. Offred's stories become almost the main storyline as each part of the story is interrupted by a moment from the past. Offred uses the "system" of society to manipulate little things such as lotion and cigarettes by allowing others to violate social norms. She becomes so comfortable in this practice that she 'freely' goes to and from Nick at night despite the penalties that would fall on them both if she were caught. The role of technology did not seem to evolve that much; however, the way in which Offred chose to negotiate her humanity evolved from a placid state of acceptance to a manipulative mode of survival.
