Handmaid's Tale- First Half

I think Offred definitely feels as though she's lost all shred of humanity during the first part of the novel. It's almost like she's a robot- leaving the house once a day to shop with another woman, and they don' t just talk amongst each other as friends, it's always the same premeditated conversation, and Offred repeats her "Praise be" response over and over. Are you kidding me. What's worse is how the shopping tokens have pictures on them because they are not allowed to read. She doesn't even have her own name, and her favorite hobbies seem to be inspecting her room, talking to Moira in the bathroom, and thinking of Luke. This is a very depressing book; all these women are programmed to think and act in a certain way, and it doesn't seem humane at all to me.
