Why We Fight
The movie, "Why We Fight", was a kind of documentary. It pointed out the fact that most US citizens don't really know exactly why we are in Iraq. In the course of interviews and old news footage, it pointed out the pattern developing in the US government to go to war.
Honestly, I didn't really like this video. We have all heard this before. Instead of pointing out the problems with what is going on today, why isn't there an attempt at coming up with some solutions? We are stuck with the choices that have been made, now what can we do in this situation?
But to relate it to our topic; technology. It is a shame that the industries are profiting so much from war. But, in the end, it has brought about some really incredible pieces of machinery and intelligent technology. Because the companies compete for the contract, they are forced to come up with the best, newest technology to protect the soldiers and kill the enemy. With out that combative edge, the advances in weaponry would probably not be evolving as rapidly as is has been in recent years. This technology doesn't only benefit us, it also benefits the innocent people. With smarter bombs and more accurate guns, the chances of by standards getting hurt is reduced. Technology is a huge factor in warfare.

I agree that the profit motivation helps fuel innovation, but (from my perspective) it's gone *way* to far if profit is also part of why we go to war in the first place. I'm with you--I don't like that idea either--but if it's the case, I think it's important that we understand it.
