Ch 15: Playing Chicken with the Apocalypse

I find this chapter to be almost opposite than Chapter 4. This chapter is mainly focusing on how our "science and technology might be running on fumes" where Chapter 4 talks about the vast opportunities we have in our world. Even though I agree with Chapter 4, I find a lot of truth in this chapter as well. This chapter goes into a lot of detail about how small decisions can have big effects. Just like the straw that broke the camel's back or the "tipping point" these small decisions cause a riple affect that can cause serious damage. A lot of the times these small happenings can cause larger actions that any new technology ever does.

The chapter also narrowed down this concept into something that is happening currently. We can definitely all attest to the rising gas prices, but to think that it all started during our abuse of the freedom of oil, which now has vastly depleted and turned our world into "oil addicts". Again, these small changes have also caused vast effects in a better direction. We are now based on cheap energy and have created "Green Revolution". Now in some sense, are dependence on cheap energy could be seen as a downward spiral because everything depends on it, so it can definitly end. This just goes to show how something small can cause MANY different larger effects, some good, some bad.
