Ender's Game

Ender’s Game was full of technological phenomena. It is hard to think from our day and time that children could be bred to become military geniuses. However, we are already able to procreate from a test tube and even pick out which eggs and sperm to use. The breeding part is actually possible. Producing a genius baby would be next if Ender’s Game could happen. It was intriguing to know that every single step in raising Ender and the way he was treated at the space camp was calculated to the very finest detail in order to get the results the adults were after. Some children are born musically inclined or freakishly athletic. Maybe being a military genius isn’t too far out of reach after all.
We are able to travel to space, but what was so interesting were the games Ender played. Ender and the reader both think they are really games, but actually he is interacting directly with the aliens. To me, that was the best part of the book.

I'm on a Slashdot.org kick tonight

Not only can we pick and choose the egg and sperm, we are inching closer to being able to design a living creature from the ground up, even if they are really basic right now:

First patent claimed on man-made life form, and challenged: http://www.world-science.net/othernews/070607_mycoplasma.htm
